There are many different land uses that border the city. Over time the city is likely to expand into these areas, and the land use will most likely change.
Stellawood Cemetery used to be on the outskirts of Durban, it is now very much part of the city.
While the Valley of a Thousand Hills is largely in the metropolitan area of eThekweni, it still has a very dispersed rural set-up.
Marianhill Monastery, while still having some rural functions, is slowly being encroached upon by industrial areas.
