  1.  Low Pressure over South Africa
    South Africa is situated in a High Pressure belt due to descending air from the Hadley Cell (see image below).
    In summer, prolonged heating of the earth’s surface in South Africa results in rising air and a Lower Pressure over the country.

  2. The South Atlantic High Pressure is ridging around the south of South Africa, feeding moisture into the interior of the country.
  3. Mid Latitude Cyclones are far south of South Africa
    The pressure cells follow the sun southwards in summer, causing the mid-latitude cyclones to be far south, missing South Africa as they travel eastwards.
